What is a DEXA Scan?

DEXA (Dual-Energy X-ray Absorptiometry) uses two low-dose X-ray beams to give you a precise, region-by-region breakdown of your bone density, lean muscle mass, and body fat. The scan takes about 10 to 15 minutes, is completely non-invasive, and delivers data you can actually act on.

Your scale only tells you one number. Two people at the same weight can have completely different health profiles. DEXA shows you what is actually happening beneath the surface — so you can stop guessing and start making decisions based on real data.

What a DEXA Scan reveals:

  • R

Total Body Fat Percentage: Far more accurate than BMI or bioelectrical impedance methods.

  • R

Regional Fat Distribution: See exactly where fat is carried across your arms, legs, trunk, and midsection.

  • R

Visceral Fat (VAT): The hidden fat around your organs — an independent predictor of cardiometabolic risk, even in people who appear lean.

  • R

Lean Muscle Mass: Identify muscle imbalances side to side and region to region.

  • R

Bone Mineral Density: The clinical standard for assessing bone health and catching early signs of osteopenia or osteoporosis.

  • R

Resting Metabolic Rate Estimate: Understand how many calories your body burns at rest based on your actual lean mass.

Who is a DEXA Scan for?

DEXA is ideal for anyone who wants clarity and precision about their health, including those:

  • Tracking body recomposition (fat loss vs. muscle gain)
  • Monitoring bone health, especially with a family history of osteoporosis
  • Managing a metabolic condition with objective data
  • Recovering from injury and tracking muscle symmetry
  • Looking for a clear, accurate baseline of where they stand today

What should I expect?

Wear comfortable, metal-free clothing. You’ll lie on an open table for about 10 to 15 minutes while the scanner passes over you. Right after your scan, you’ll review your results with a team member.

We recommend scanning every 3 to 6 months to track meaningful changes.

What is the radiation exposure?

The radiation exposure is comparable to one to two days of natural background radiation.
